Heritage Park is a place where you can quietly imagine the Battle of Rhode Island and the fighting that took place on Turkey Hill. In the action at Turkey Hill, Hessian troops under Captain Von Malburg pursued American Col. Laurens Regiment to Turkey Hill. Laurens men took up a strong defensive position on top of Turkey Hill. American and Hessian units engaged on Turkey Hill before the Americans fell back to Butts Hill and the Hessians had secured Turkey Hill.

At 8 AM the British forces under the command of Von Der Malsburg chased Col. John Laurens and his American troops. There were skirmishes up West (Main) Road as the two sides made contact.
