Speaker: Loren M. Spears, M.Ed
Executive Director and Educator
Ms. Spears will discuss the Narragansett People and the very early days in what is now the town of North Kingstown. She will share stories about the Narragansett People’s relationship with Roger Williams, Richard Smith, and others. You will learn about the Great Swamp Massacre tragedy and its connections to the current Smith Castle site.
The Tomaquag Museum, where Ms. Spears serves as executive director, was the recipient of the Institute of Museums and Library Service’s National Medal in 2016. Ms. Spears is a sought-after speaker who holds numerous awards and honors, including honorary doctorate degrees from a couple of universities. She is a skilled administrator, educator, artist, writer, and state and national leader.
