Independence Cup: Newport International Polo Series

The Independence Cup brings America’s 250th anniversary to life at Newport Polo during it’s own 150th Diamond Jubilee with a day of picnicking, patriotic style, live music, and a reading of the Declaration of Independence. A stirring national anthem performance and the recognition of active military in uniform are invited to attend at no charge and march in the Color Guard to honor the spirit of service and sacrifice. Pregame festivities will culminate in a thrilling polo match with players representing America’s united armed forces.

During the Battle of Rhode Island on August 29th, 1778, one of the early skirmishes between Patriot and British troops occurred near the Polo grounds at the intersection of East Main Road and Union Street.
