Eight Rod Way: The Story of Tiverton’s Colonial Superhighway and the Black Laborers Who Lived There

February 12 @ 6:30 PM - 7:30 PM

The first colonial subdivision of land that eventually became the Town of Tiverton was the Pocasset Purchase. It was done by Plymouth Colony in 1680 and included 30 “great lots” with a 132-foot wide “proprietor’s way” extending from Fall River down to Tiverton’s East Road near Four Corners. This presentation will explain why 3.5 miles of that original highway still extends through wild forest and was once home to Black laborers in two of Tiverton‘s early industries. Presented by Garry Plunkett
