Dr. Murray Norcross to address NARFE about Butts Hill Fort during the Battle of Rhode Island

On Tuesday February 7th at 1:00 pm, Battle Of Rhode Island Association Grant Advisor Dr. Murray Norcross Jr., MD, MPH will deliver a speech detailing the importance of Butts Hill Fort as a command center during the Rhode Island Campaign of August 1778. This event will take place at the Portsmouth Free Public Library 2658 East Main Rd in Portsmouth, RI.
Dr. Norcross will be addressing the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. As the only organization solely dedicated to the general welfare of all federal workers and retirees, NARFE delivers valuable guidance, timely resources, and powerful advocacy.
The largest Revolutionary War earthwork still standing in southern New England, Butts Hill Fort served as the headquarters for General John Sullivan during the Rhode Island Campaign in 1778 and was occupied by allied French troops under General Comte de Rochambeau in 1780-81. It is on the National Register of Historic Places and on the National Park Service’s Washington-Rochambeau Revolutionary Route.
Dr Norcross is a retired Navy Captain who served 30 years in the Medical Corps as a Family Physician. A native of North Adams, Massachusetts he’s a member of the Sons of the American Revolution. He now resides in Portsmouth.
