BRISTOL-The Bristol Historical & Preservation Society invites the public to a lecture entitled “Burnside: The Real Story”, to be held on April 24 at 6:30pm at the Bristol Train of Artillery at 135 State St., Bristol. Award-winning author Robert Grandchamp will give the talk. The event is co-sponsored by the Bristol Train of Artillery. Anyone with just a small knowledge of the Civil War probably can say that Rhode Island’s General Ambrose Burnside was a bumbling moron who failed time and again on the battlefield. But, is this true? And if not, why has history been so unkind to this man. Join Robert Grandchamp for the real story of Ambrose Burnside, a man who won more battles than he lost, a supporter of Emancipation, and a fervent believer in the Union cause. Award-winning author Robert Grandchamp earned his Masters in American History from Rhode Island College and has written fifteen books and dozens of articles about Rhode Island Military History. A former National Park Ranger, he is a senior analyst with the government who resides in Jericho Center, Vermont, with his wife, Elizabeth, and their children, Addison, Sawyer, and Mackenzie.
The lecture is free and open to the public and will be held at the Bristol Train of Artillery, at 135 State St., Bristol, RI. Participants who wish to join via Zoom can register to receive the link at www.bhpsri.org. For more information, please contact the BH&PS at info@bhpsri.org.
