250th Anniversary Wedding Reenactment of Nathanael Greene and Catharine Littlefield “Kitty” Greene

Join the Nathanael Greene Homestead for a special event celebrating the love story of Nathanael and Kitty Greene! Witness a historical reenactment of their wedding ceremony at Nathanael Greene Homestead, 50 Taft Street, Coventry, RI 02816.. Immerse yourself in the past and experience the charm of a traditional 18th-century wedding. Don’t miss this unique opportunity to step back in time and celebrate this milestone anniversary with us! Period appropriate Reenactors and Living Historians are invited to attend in colonial dress. This event is free and open to the public. Donations gladly accepted.

-10:00 am-Homestead opens to the public

-10:30 am-Ticketed Hairdressing Event in the Barn. Click here for tickets.

-11:00 am-Race to Brown Betty – Anyone 12 years old and older is invited to participate as the groom’s party race to be the first to claim the jug, the brown betty.

-12:00 pm-The Bride dresses for the Ceremony Facebook Live broadcast from inside Spell Hall

-1:00 pm-Ceremony

An 18th Century Wedding ceremony contained many of the same language that would be heard in a ceremony today. Prayers are read from the Book of Common Prayer.
Following the ceremony the Bride and Groom exchange gifts. Members of the community will also present the newlyweds with gifts useful in their new role as husband and wife.

-2:00 pm-Dancing

Everyone is invited to participate in a basic historic dance to celebrate. Try your hand at historic games for all ages throughout the day

-3:00 pm- Abduction of the Bride. Groom and his “Best” men will rescue her.

-5:00 pm- Homestead closes to the public

-6:00-8:00 pm- “Colonial Dance Workshop”
