Lafayette Returns

Lafayette returned from meetings with d’Estaing in Boston.  He had tried to persuade the French to come back to Newport.  He had missed the battle but he took over the responsibility of guiding the rest of the rear guard off Aquidneck Island.  He ordered fires set to suggest the Americans were staying on the island.
